Licensing Mechanism

ZStack Cube Ultimate provides the following license types:
  • Hyper-Converged License (Base License):
    • Provides the core cloud platform capabilities for mainstream business scenarios.
    • Supported editions: Ultimate Trial and Ultimate Prepaid.
  • Distributed Storage License (Base License):
    • Provides distributed storage capabilities for mainstream business scenarios.
    • Supported editions: Distributed Storage Enterprise Trial and Distributed Storage Enterprise Prepaid.
    • The available features depend on the purchased license modules, including block storage, object storage.
Note: Object storage must be used together with a block storage license and cannot be used independently.
  • Module License (Plus License):
    • Provides add-on or enhanced features for specific business scenarios. A module license requires a hyper-converged license and cannot be used independently.
    • Module licenses include VMware Management, Tenant Management, ARM64 Server Management, Disaster Recovery Service, Continuous Data Protection (CDP), Baremetal Management, Elastic Baremetal Management, Alibaba Cloud Hybrid Cloud Management, 5x8 (7x24) After-Sales Service, SR-IOV NIC Service, GPU Service, Billing Management, CloudFormation, Auto-Scaling Service, and Smart NIC Service.

Install a License

Install a License | USB Key

About this task

If you use USB Key authorization, perform the following operations:

  1. Insert the USB Key into the management node server.
  2. Refresh the UI. On the License Management page, click the refresh button next to Upload License.
  3. After the refresh is complete, the complete authorization information is displayed.
Figure 2. Complete License Information

Note:
  • Authorization can be updated by using the Key ID or request key.
  • USB Key authorization currently supports distributed storage licenses for ZStone storage, but does not support distributed storage licenses for ZCE-X storage.
  • Module licenses (Plus License) authorized by using a USB Key cannot be deleted.
  • dual management nodes are deployed, note the following:
    • Only one USB Key needs to be inserted for authorization.
    • If the node with the USB Key fails, we recommend that you remove the USB Key and insert it into another healthy node to ensure normal service operation.

Install a License | Request Key

If you use request key authorization, you can install the license by using the following methods.

GUI Method

On the License Management page, click Upload License in the upper-right corner. In the displayed Upload License dialog, upload the obtained license from local storage.

Figure 3. Upload a License from Local

Note:
  • Authorization can be updated by using the Key ID or request key.
  • You can upload the hyper-converged license (Base License), distributed storage license (Base License), and module licenses (Plus License) together as a tar.gz package or .txt files, or upload them separately.
  • In a dual management node environment, we recommend that you download the request key and upload the license on the management node where the virtual IP address resides. The authorization information is updated on all management nodes.
  • You can click the refresh button in the upper-right corner of the License Management page to reload licenses.
  • Only admin can load and delete licenses. Hyper-converged licenses (Base License) and distributed storage licenses (Base License) cannot be deleted.

Manage a License

In the ZStack Cube Ultimate main menu, click Personal Center > License Management to go to the License Management page.

Licenses support the following operations:
Operation Description
Upload License Adds a license through the GUI.
Note:
  • For USB Key authorization, you can upload the hyper-converged license (Base License) and module licenses (Plus License) together as .txt files. For distributed storage licenses (Base License), only ZStone storage is supported. ZCE-X storage is not supported.
  • For request key authorization, you can upload the hyper-converged license (Base License), distributed storage license (Base License), and module licenses (Plus License) together as a tar.gz package or separately.
Copy Key ID Copies the Key ID required to generate a license. You can update a license by using the Key ID.
Download Request Key Downloads the request key required to generate a license.
Delete Module License Deletes an added module license.
Note: Module licenses (Plus License) authorized by using a USB Key cannot be deleted.

License Status

A license has the following statuses:
Status Description
Valid A valid hyper-converged license is marked as valid in the corresponding position.
Expired If a hyper-converged license, distributed storage license, or module license expires, the corresponding position is marked as expired and the features become unavailable. After a module license expires, its main menu entry cannot be accessed.

License Exception Reminder

  • When the remaining license period is less than 15 days, a banner reminder is displayed after you log in to the Cloud.
    Note:
    • The 5x8 (7x24) After-Sales Service reminds you when the remaining service period is less than 30 days. Contact the Cloud service personnel to update the license in time and obtain official support services.
    • Click View in the banner to go to the License Management page. To avoid impact on normal use, contact the Cloud service personnel to update your license as soon as possible.
  • When the platform license expires, you are redirected to the License Management page after logging in to the Cloud. To avoid impact on normal use, contact the Cloud service personnel to update the license as soon as possible.
    Note:
    • If your hyper-converged license (Base License) expires, existing services on the Cloud keep running, but do not perform any operation, such as reconnecting hosts, image servers, or primary storage, to avoid impact on running services.
    • If your distributed storage license (Base License) expires, existing services on the Cloud keep running, but do not perform any operation, such as reconnecting hosts, image servers, or primary storage, to avoid impact on running services.
    • If your module license (Plus License) expires, all features provided by the module become unavailable. For example, if the Tenant Management module license expires, the project login page is locked.
    • If your hyper-converged license (Base License) expires but a module license (Plus License) is still valid, you can view resources related to the module but cannot operate on them. For example, if your Ultimate Prepaid license expires but the Tenant Management module license is still valid, you can log in to the Cloud from the project login entry but cannot operate on related resources.
  • When you update a license, if the actual resource usage exceeds the licensed quota, most Cloud features are restricted. To avoid impact on normal use, update the license to expand the capacity as soon as possible. The restrictions are as follows:
    • You can log in to the Cloud and obtain, refresh, and view resource states.
    • You can perform quota reduction operations, such as deleting hosts, deleting vCenters, deleting clusters, changing host states, deleting VM instances, and expunging VM instances.
    • You can perform license management operations, such as downloading the request key, copying the Key ID, uploading a license, and deleting a license.
    • Other operations are restricted.
    Note: Note the following:
    • License quota can be calculated by CPU socket, host, or VM instance. If actual resource usage exceeds the licensed quota in any of these dimensions, Cloud usage is restricted.

Licensing Record

In the ZStack Cube Ultimate main menu, click Personal Center > License Management > Licensing Record to go to the Licensing Record page.

admin can view the Cloud licensing history on the GUI, including product license type, issue time, expiration time, authorized attributes, authorized quota, status, and upload time.
