GPU Specification

What is GPU Specification?

A GPU specification defines the frame per second (FPS), video memory, resolution, and other configuration settings of a physical or virtual GPU. GPU specifications are categorized into physical GPU specifications and virtual GPU specifications. ZStack Cloud supports GPUs installed on hosts. In ZStack Cloud, you can directly assign a single physical GPU to a VM instance, or share it among multiple VM instances running on the same host.

  • Physical GPU specification: defines the FPS, video memory, resolution, and other configuration settings of a physical GPU.
  • vGPU specification: defines the FPS, video memory, resolution, and other configuration settings of a virtual GPU virtualized from a physical GPU.

Manage a GPU Specification

Log in to ZCF, switch to the corresponding region, and then on the main menu, choose Resource Center > Resource Pool > Compute Configuration > GPU Specification. The GPU Specification page is displayed.

The following table lists the actions that you can perform on a GPU specification.

Operation Description
Enable GPU Specification Enable a disabled GPU specification. Once enabled, it can be used to allocate GPUs to VM instances.
Disable GPU Specification Disable the selected GPU specification. Once disabled, it cannot be used to allocate GPUs to VM instances.
Set ROM Set a ROM for the GPU specification, used for GPU passthrough.
Note:
  • You can obtain the required ROM file from the GPU vendor's official website.
  • Make sure to upload a ROM file that matches the GPU with the correct version. Otherwise, the passthrough GPU may not function properly.
  • After the ROM file is uploaded, it is directly applied to the GPU devices corresponding to the added specification.
  • A newly uploaded ROM file overwrites the previously uploaded ROM file.
  • ZStack Cloud has built-in base ROM files that support GPU passthrough for the vast majority of physical GPUs. If you need to use other ROM files, obtain them from the GPU vendor's official website and upload them.
Set Sharing Mode
Set the sharing mode of a resource. The platform provides the following sharing modes:
  • Share Globally: Shares the resource to all projects and accounts.
  • Share to Specified Projects/Accounts: Shares the resource with specified projects and accounts.
  • Not Share: Revokes the resource from projects and accounts to which the resource is shared. If you set Sharing Mode to Not Share for a resource, other projects and accounts cannot use the resource.
Note:
  • If you change the Sharing Mode setting of a resource from Share Globally to Share to Specified Projects/Accounts, the resource is visible only to the specified projects or accounts the resource is shared to.
  • If the resource that you share to the specified projects oraccounts is being used by these projects or accounts and then you change the Sharing Mode of the resource, the change does not take effect on the projects or accounts immediately. They can reverse and use the resource until it is released.

Manage a vGPU Specification

Log in to ZCF, switch to the corresponding region, and then on the main menu, choose Resource Center > Resource Pool > Compute Configuration > GPU Specification. The GPU Specification page is displayed.

The following table lists the actions that you can perform on a vGPU specification.

Operation Description
Enable vGPU Specification Enable a disabled vGPU specification. Once enabled, it can be used to allocate vGPUs to VM instances.
Disable vGPU Specification Disable the selected vGPU specification. Once disabled, it cannot be used to allocate vGPUs to VM instances.
Set Sharing Mode

  • Share Globally: Shares the resource to all projects and accounts.
  • Share to Specified Projects/Accounts: Shares the resource with specified projects and accounts.
  • Not Share: Revokes the resource from projects and accounts to which the resource is shared. If you set Sharing Mode to Not Share for a resource, other projects and accounts cannot use the resource.
