Add Backup Storage
To use the backup feature, deploy backup storage in ZSphere to store backup data. Depending on your backup scenario, you can add local backup storage or remote backup storage.
Add Local Backup Storage
Add local backup storage to store scheduled backup data for local virtual machines or the platform database. Local backup storage supports seamless failover to help ensure business continuity.
If local data is accidentally deleted or corrupted, you can restore backup data from local backup storage to the local environment.
If a disaster occurs in the local data center, you can use local backup storage to rebuild the data center and recover services.
- Reuse an existing image storage resource to store backup data. For more information, see Reuse Image Storage.
- Reuse an existing host resource and use the free capacity on the host to store backup data. For more information, see Reuse Host.
- Add a dedicated backup node and use free disks or a local directory on the node to store backup data. For more information, see Dedicated Backup Storage.
You can configure the number of local backup storage resources based on your business requirements.
Reuse Image Storage
Reuse an existing image storage resource to store local backup data.
Before you begin
- An image storage resource already exists in the platform and is a connected and enabled standalone image repository.
- The backup network has been planned.
Procedure
- In the navigation pane, choose .
- On the Backup Storage page, click Add Backup Storage.
- In the Select Backup Storage Addition Type dialog, select Reuse Image Storage, and then click Next.

In the Add Local Backup Storage dialog, configure the following options:
Basic Information
Option Description Data Center Displays the data center where the backup storage is located. Addition Method Displays Reuse Image Storage. Configuration Information
Option Description Image Storage Select an existing image storage to use as local backup storage. Backup Storage Path Automatically obtains the path of the selected image storage. Backup Network The network dedicated to backup traffic. Enter the backup network CIDR. Backup Data Choose whether to scan existing backup data. - Review the configuration and click OK.
Reuse Host
Reuse an existing host resource and use the free capacity on the host to store local backup data.
Before you begin
- A host resource already exists in the platform and is connected and enabled.
- The backup network has been planned.
Procedure
- In the navigation pane, choose .
- On the Backup Storage page, click Add Backup Storage.
- In the Select Backup Storage Addition Type dialog, select Reuse Host, and then click Next.

Option Description Name Name of the local backup storage. Description Enter a brief description for the local backup storage. Data Center Displays the data center where the backup storage is located. Addition Method Displays Reuse Host. Configuration Information
Option Description Host Select an existing host to use as local backup storage. Backup Storage Path Enter the mount path on the local backup storage. 
Note: Do not use system directories such as /, /dev/, /proc/, /sys/, /usr/bin, or /bin. Otherwise, the host might become abnormal.Backup Network The network dedicated to backup traffic. Enter the backup network CIDR. Backup Data Choose whether to scan existing backup data. - Review the configuration and click OK.
Dedicated Backup Storage
Add a dedicated backup node and use free disks or a local directory on the node to store backup data.
Procedure
- In the navigation pane, choose .
- On the Backup Storage page, click Add Backup Storage.
- In the Select Backup Storage Addition Type dialog, select Dedicated Backup Storage, and then click Next.
- In the Add Local Backup Storage dialog, complete the basic configuration and disk configuration.

For Basic Configuration, configure the following options:

Option Description Name Name of the local backup storage. Description Enter a brief description for the local backup storage. Data Center Displays the data center where the backup storage is located. Addition Method Displays Dedicated Backup Storage. Configuration Information
Option Description Backup Storage IP Enter the IP address of the dedicated backup storage. SSH Port Default is 22. Username Default is the root user. Password The password of the specified user. - Review the basic configuration and click Next.

For Disk Configuration, configure the following options:
Option Description Storage Method Supports Free Disk and Local Directory. Free Disk Set this parameter when Free Disk is selected as the storage method. Note: Configuring a free disk formats the selected disk and permanently clears all partitions, file systems, and data from the disk.Backup Storage Path Enter the mount path on the dedicated backup storage. Note: Do not use system directories such as /, /dev/, /proc/, /sys/, /usr/bin, or /bin. Otherwise, the backup storage might become abnormal.Backup Network The network dedicated to backup traffic. Enter the backup network CIDR. Backup Data Set this parameter when Local Directory is selected as the storage method. Choose whether to scan existing backup data. - Review the configuration and click OK.
Add Remote Backup Storage
Add remote backup storage to store scheduled backup data for local virtual machines or the platform database. Backup data is synchronized from local backup storage to remote backup storage.
If local data is accidentally deleted or corrupted, you can restore backup data from remote backup storage to the local environment.
If a disaster occurs in the local data center, you can use remote backup storage to rebuild the data center and recover services.
You can add remote backup storage by adding a dedicated backup node. For more information, see Dedicated Backup Storage.
You can add only one remote backup storage.
