Add SAN Storage

Before you begin

Procedure

  1. In the navigation pane, choose Inventory > Data Storage.
  2. Select the target data center and click Actions > Add Data Storage.
  3. In the Add Data Storage dialog, configure the following options:

    Basic Information

    Option Description
Name Enter a name for the SAN storage.
Description Enter a brief description for the data storage.
    Type Select SAN Storage.
Data Center Displays the data center that contains the SAN storage.

    Configurations

    Option Description
Cluster Select the cluster where the SAN storage will be attached.
Default Provisioning Method of Storage Space Specify the allocation method for disk storage space. Default: Thick Provision.
    • Thick Provision: Pre-allocates the required storage space to provide sufficient capacity and ensure storage performance.
    • Thin Provision: Allocates storage space according to actual usage for higher storage utilization.
Storage Addition Method Select a method to add storage.
    • New: Creates new data storage by initializing unused LUNs into data storage that can be used by the platform. You can choose whether to clear existing data on the LUNs when adding them.
    • Register: Connects existing SAN storage that the platform can recognize. Use this method to bring existing storage back under management or connect a cloned storage copy. During registration, all LUNs in the selected SAN storage are added automatically.
LUN Select LUNs provided by iSCSI storage, FC storage, or NVMe storage.
Storage Network Specify a storage network for shared storage. The platform uses this storage network to check the health status of virtual machines.
Cleanse LUN Choose whether to forcibly clear existing data on the LUNs, such as file system, RAID, or partition table labels. By default, the LUNs are not cleansed.
Note: If data or partitions exist on the LUNs, adding LUNs or attaching data storage might fail.
Storage UUID When you select Register as the storage addition method, choose whether to retain the UUID of the selected SAN storage.
    • Keep: Retains the original UUID of the selected SAN storage.
    • Reset: Generates a new UUID for the SAN storage being registered. Use this option for UUID conflicts after cloning or snapshots, or for disaster recovery drills that require an independent storage UUID.

If the platform detects that the selected SAN storage UUID conflicts with an existing storage record, Reset is selected automatically and Keep is unavailable.

Note: After the reset, the storage being registered uses a new UUID. I/O errors may occur if other hosts still access that storage using its original UUID.
  4. Review the configuration and click OK.
