Licensing Modes and License Rules

ZStack Cube Virtualization Edition supports two licensing modes: Dedicated License and Shared License. Shared License is centrally managed in ZCenter.

Licensing Modes

ZStack Cube Virtualization Edition supports the following licensing modes:

  • Dedicated License: ZStack Cube Virtualization Edition uses its own license quota. A license can be provided by using a USB Key that has a license preloaded, or by using a Request Key to apply for and upload a License package.
  • Shared License: A ZCenter administrator can add a ZStack Cube Virtualization Edition Enterprise Edition environment to the license pool if its Primary License quota is measured in CPU sockets. After the environment is added, it uses shared quota from the pool. After it is removed, it continues to use its original Dedicated License.
Note: When a Shared License is used, ZStack Cube Virtualization Edition does not support license uploads. To update the license or change the licensing mode, contact the ZCenter administrator.

Preset License and Upgrade Inheritance Rules

  • A newly installed environment includes a preset Enterprise Trial license that is valid for three months and has no CPU limit.
  • An upgraded environment retains the Primary License used before the upgrade. The authorization remains unchanged whether the environment used an updated license or the original preset license before the upgrade.
  • If the Primary License is updated to an Enterprise license after the upgrade, the license page displays the actual purchased authorization.
