Content Library

The content library provides a centralized view of image files, VM templates, and image storage in connected ZSphere environments, providing reusable content for VM deployment. Images provide operating system or disk content, templates let you reuse existing VM configurations, and image storage holds image files.

Before deploying VMs in an environment, find images or templates by management node and check whether they meet your deployment requirements. If a suitable image is unavailable, you can create one in the target environment and choose a storage location based on its capacity and status. The centralized view makes content easier to find, but you still need to confirm its ZSphere environment before selecting or operating on it.

Manage Image Files

Find and prepare images in a target ZSphere environment, obtain image files from export records, and maintain existing images.

The following operations are performed in Platform View of the ZCenter management interface. Before you begin, ensure that the target ZSphere environment has been added, is connected, and has completed resource synchronization. Your account must have the required viewing or operation permissions.

Find and Check Available Images

  1. In the navigation pane, choose Content Libraries > Image Files and open the Image tab.
  2. Use Node to select the target ZSphere management node and search for the image by name. Check Management Node and Data Center in the list to confirm the image's environment.
  3. Review the image's State, Status, Image Format, and Size to determine whether its format and capacity meet your deployment requirements, and confirm that the image is enabled and ready.
  4. Click the image name and check Image Type and Image Storage on the Overview tab of its details page. To check its source and storage information, review URL and Installation Path.

If the target environment has no suitable image, proceed to prepare one.

Prepare Images in the Target Environment

If you have the URL of an image file, you can start image creation from ZCenter to add the image to image storage in the selected environment.

  1. On the Image tab, click Create Image.
  2. In the Create Image dialog box, select the Management Node corresponding to the target ZSphere environment and click OK to open the creation page.
  3. Complete the configuration using the following descriptions.
    Parameter Description
Organization Select the organization for this operation before selecting image storage.
Name, Description Enter an image name and use the description to record information such as the system version and intended use, making the image easier to find and distinguish later.
Image Type Select System Image or Disk Image based on the purpose of the source file.
Image Format Select the format that matches the actual format of the source image file.
Image Storage Select the server that will store the image. The selection window shows its type, mount path, capacity utilization, and available capacity. Use this information to check the storage location and whether its capacity meets your image preparation requirements.
Image Path Use the URL option and enter the URL of the image file to add.
  4. Verify the configuration and click Confirm Creation.
  5. Return to the image list, confirm the new image's management node, and check its readiness status.

To check the creation task's execution status, click Task at the top of the page and review the status of the corresponding record.

Export and Obtain Images

To obtain an existing image file, first export the image and then obtain the file from its export record.

  1. Find the target image on the Image tab and confirm its management node.
  2. Open Actions in the image's row and select Export Image. Verify the image name in the confirmation dialog box and click OK.
  3. Switch to the Export Records tab, find the corresponding record by node and name, and check its Status.
  4. For a ready export record, select Copy URL from Actions in its row to obtain the file address, or select Download to download the image file.

If a ready export record already exists, you can obtain the file directly from that record.

Maintain Existing Images

Find the target image on the Image tab, confirm its environment, and use the Actions menu in its row.

Operation Description
Edit Modify the image's Name and Description, verify the changes, and click OK.
Enable, Disable Change the image's enabled state. Select an operation available for its current state, and then check State in the list or on the details page.

Manage Template Files

Find suitable VM templates in connected ZSphere environments, start VM creation from a template, and maintain template names and descriptions.

VM templates let you reuse a VM's operating system, applications, and configuration to deploy VMs with the same attributes. The following operations are performed in Platform View of the ZCenter management interface. Before you begin, ensure that the target ZSphere environment is connected and has completed resource synchronization. Your account must have the required viewing or operation permissions.

Check a Template's Environment and Configuration

  1. In the navigation pane, choose Content Libraries > Template Files.
  2. Use Node to select the target ZSphere management node and search for a template by name. Check the Management Node and Data Center columns to confirm its environment.
  3. Review Operating System, CPU, and Memory in the list to determine whether the template meets your deployment requirements. To check further details, click the template name and open the Overview tab.

When selecting a template, confirm its environment before checking its configuration to avoid treating templates with the same name in different environments as the same deployment source.

Create VMs from Templates

You can use existing templates to create VMs in ZCenter. New VMs are deployed in the ZSphere environment to which the template belongs.

  1. Select Create Virtual Machine from Actions in the target template's row. Alternatively, select a single template and click Create Virtual Machine above the list.
  2. On the creation page, verify the prefilled Template, CPU, and Memory settings, as well as the selected Data Center and Cluster, before continuing with VM configuration.

Maintain Existing Templates

To update a template's identifying information, select Edit from Actions in its row, modify Name or Description, and click OK.

Manage Image Storage

View the capacity, status, and images of image storage in a target ZSphere environment, and use maintenance operations to change its enabled state or reconnect it.

Image storage holds image files. Before preparing an image, check the image storage and its available capacity in the target environment. To find out which images are already stored there, view the images on the storage details page.

The following operations are performed in Platform View of the ZCenter management interface. Before you begin, ensure that the target ZSphere environment is connected and has completed resource synchronization. Your account must have the required viewing or operation permissions.

Check Image Storage Capacity and Status

  1. In the navigation pane, choose Content Libraries > Image Storage.
  2. Use Node to select the target ZSphere management node, search for image storage by name, and verify Management Node and Data Center.
  3. Review Capacity Utilization, available capacity, State, and Status in the list to check storage capacity and connectivity.
  4. Click the storage name to open its details page and view the following information as needed.
Location Description
Overview Verify Image Storage IP, Mount Path, State, and Status. In Server Available Capacity, review the available and total capacity to help choose where to store images.
Monitoring View used capacity percentage, CPU usage, memory usage, disk I/O, and network interface metrics for the selected time range to understand the storage server's resource usage.

View Images in Storage

On the image storage details page, open the Images tab to view image names, formats, and capacities, and confirm which images the storage holds.

To check an image's readiness status, export it, or maintain it, go to Content Libraries > Image Files, select the same node, and find the target image.

Maintain Image Storage

Find the target storage in the image storage list, confirm its environment, and use the Actions menu in its row.

Operation Description
Edit Modify the image storage's Name and Description, verify the changes, and click OK.
Enable, Disable Change the image storage's enabled state. Select an operation available for its current state, and then check State.
Reconnect Select Reconnect when you need to reestablish the storage connection. After the operation, check Status in the list or on the details page to verify connectivity.
