Resource Management
ZCenter provides a centralized view of resources in connected ZSphere environments. You can review overall resource scale and usage across the platform or locate hosts, VMs, storage, and network resources within a specific environment. Platform summaries reflect the overall situation within the scope of centralized management, while individual resources are identified and operated on within the ZSphere environments to which they belong.
After locating a target resource, you can use the operations available on its page in ZCenter. To continue managing a specific environment, you can also open its ZSphere management interface. This chapter explains how to review overall information, find and operate on resources, and access a target environment.
View the Home Page
Use the ZCenter home page to review the platform's resource scale, environment connections, and capacity usage, as well as alarms, expiration reminders, and service applications.
You are logged in to the ZCenter management interface, and your account can access Platform View.
The home page displays information for the platform as a whole. To examine a specific ZSphere environment, open its inventory from the home page.
If an environment is disconnected or resource synchronization is abnormal, see Manage Connected Environments.
Use Resource Overview and Inventory
Choose an entry point based on your search scope: use Resource Overview to view resources of the same type across multiple ZSphere environments, or use Inventory to locate resources within a single environment's hierarchy.
ZCenter provides two entry points: Resource Overview and Inventory. Resource Overview organizes lists by resource type, such as hosts, VMs, and disks, for searches across environments. Inventory organizes entries by connected environment, allowing you to view resources within a specific environment, data center, cluster, or other scope.
Before you begin, ensure that the target ZSphere environment has been added, is connected, and has completed resource synchronization. The resources you can view and the operations you can perform depend on your account permissions.
Find Resources Across Environments in Resource Overview
In the navigation pane of ZCenter Platform View, choose Resource Overview to view resources in the following categories.
| Category | Resource Lists |
|---|---|
| Compute | Hosts and VMs. |
| Storage | Disks and data storage. |
| Network | Distributed port groups and security groups. |
For example, to find a VM:
- In the secondary navigation pane of Resource Overview, choose Virtual Machine.
- At the top of the page, select ZSphere from Cloud Platform Type to view VMs in the connected ZSphere environments.
- Select Name in the search bar, enter a keyword, and press Enter to find the target VM.
- Check the Management Node column to identify the environment to which the VM belongs, and click the VM name to open its details page.
To combine search conditions, click Advanced Search, enter conditions such as name, ID, IP address, or tag, and click Search. Available search fields vary by resource type.
Locate Resources by Environment in Inventory
Expand Inventory in the navigation pane and select the name of the target ZSphere environment to open its Environment Overview page.
The Overview tab of Environment Overview displays the environment's resource counts, VM and host statuses, alarms, and resource usage. Switch to tabs such as Virtual Machine, Host, or Data Storage to view the corresponding resource lists for that environment.
The resource tree on the left provides the following ways to organize resources. Click a tree node to view the corresponding resource scope.
| Tab | Resource Hierarchy |
|---|---|
| Compute | Resources are organized by data center, cluster, and host. |
| Storage | Resources are organized by data center and its data storage. |
| Networking | Resources are organized by data center and its distributed switches. |
For example, to view the VMs in a data center:
- Select the Compute tab in the resource tree on the left.
- Click the target data center to open its details page.
- Select the Virtual Machine tab to view the VMs in that data center. To narrow the scope further, select a cluster or host in the resource tree and view its VM list.
- Search for the target VM by name, and click its name to open the details page.
If Expected Resources Are Missing
- In Resource Overview, check the cloud platform type and search conditions. In Inventory, check the selected environment and resource tree node.
- Ensure that your account has permission to view the target resources.
- Check the connection and sync status of the target environment under . For instructions, see Manage Connected Environments.
Operate on Resources in Connected Environments
Identify the ZSphere environment to which a resource belongs in ZCenter, operate on existing resources or create resources in a specified environment, and check the results.
Resource operations in ZCenter take effect in the ZSphere environment to which the resource belongs. When centrally managing multiple environments, confirm the target resource and its environment before performing an operation to avoid affecting a resource with the same name in another environment.
Before you begin, ensure that the target environment has been added, is connected, and has completed resource synchronization. Your account must be able to access Platform View and have the required resource operation permissions.
Identify the Resource's Environment
After locating the target resource, identify its environment based on the entry point you are using:
- Resource Overview: The list can display resources of the same type across multiple environments. Check the target resource's Management Node column to identify its environment.
- Inventory: Check the selected environment and resource tree node to identify the resource's environment and scope within the hierarchy.
Use the environment to distinguish resources with the same name.
Perform Operations on Existing Resources
After confirming the target resources, choose an individual or batch operation as needed:
- Individual operations: Open the Actions menu in the target resource's row, or click the resource name and select the required operation on its details page. Available menus and buttons vary by resource.
- Batch operations: Select the target resources in the list, verify the selected resources and their environments, and then use the operation buttons above the list. Available batch operations depend on the options provided on the current page.
Create Resources in a Specified Environment
Before creating a resource, determine the ZSphere environment in which it will be created. When starting from Resource Overview, confirm the creation location as follows:
- Open the list for the target resource type, select ZSphere from Cloud Platform Type, and click the corresponding creation button.
- When prompted to select a Management Node, choose the target ZSphere environment. If a platform type is required, select ZStack ZSphere from Type.
- On the creation page, select the required compute, storage, or network resources within that environment and complete the configuration.
Creation forms and configuration steps vary by resource type.
Check Operation Results
- Click Task at the top of the page and find the corresponding record in Platform Operation Log or Backend Job Log to check execution status. To view more records, click View All.
- Return to the target resource's list or details page and check its status or configuration to verify that the result meets your expectations.
If an operation fails, review the failure information in the record, and then check the target environment's connection, the resource status, and the parameters you entered.
To continue in the ZSphere management interface, see Passwordless Redirect to ZSphere.
Passwordless Redirect to ZSphere
Open the management interface of a connected ZSphere environment from ZCenter without entering credentials again, and continue managing and maintaining the target environment.
- The target ZSphere environment has been added to ZCenter and is connected.
- You are logged in to ZCenter, and your account can access Platform View and the target environment's inventory.
- The current ZCenter user and a user in the target ZSphere environment have the same username and authentication source. "Same authentication source" means that both users are local users or both come from the same third-party authentication source. A local
adminaccount matches only the localadminaccount in the target environment, not an account with the same name from a third-party authentication source.
- In the navigation pane of ZCenter Platform View, expand Inventory.
- Select the name of the target ZSphere environment to open its Environment Overview page.
- On the Overview tab, click Go to Management Node.
The browser opens the target ZSphere management interface in a new tab without requiring you to enter a username and password again. Confirm the target environment and the currently logged-in user before continuing operations in that environment.
If the login page appears after the redirect, check whether users with the same username and authentication source exist on both sides. If no matching user is found, log in manually with an account from the target ZSphere environment.
