Applicable scenario

  • Product: ZCF
  • Component: Cloud
  • Version: 5.5.x
  • Deployment topology: dual management nodes
  • Trigger: List labels display abnormally and require a UI patch.

Symptoms

  • Platform list labels display abnormally.
  • Remediation requires replacing patch content in UI directories.
  • The patch affects the UI service, so a backup and rapid rollback capability are required.

Determination method

  1. Verify the patch archive md5 before applying the patch.
  2. Check whether label display returns to normal after the patch.
  3. If an exception occurs, immediately restore the backup directories and restart the UI.

Cause

This is a UI presentation-layer label display issue. The remediation therefore focuses on UI files in the tag and virtual-shared directories rather than underlying platform logic.

Resolution

  1. Preparation
  • Risk level: medium.
  • Disable global HA.
  • Back up the database.
  • Apply the patch, correct permissions, and restart the UI on both management nodes.
  1. Procedure
  2. Disable global HA.
  • Expected result: The platform enters a maintainable state.
  1. Back up the database:
   zstack-ctl dump_mysql node1
  • Expected result: A database rollback baseline is available.
  1. Verify the patch archive on both management nodes:
   md5sum tic-5759-5.5.6.tar.gz
  • Expected value:
   febaab90db1c5cd1f48ec8e636f3f0a3
  • Expected result: The patch archive is intact.
  1. Back up the original directories:
   tar -czvf zstack-ui-next-backup.tar.gz ~zstack/zstack-ui/zstack-ui/tag ~zstack/zstack-ui/zstack-ui/virtual-shared
  • Expected result: Complete rollback directories are retained.
  1. Extract the patch to the UI directory:
   tar -xzvf tic-5759-5.5.6.tar.gz -C ~zstack/zstack-ui/zstack-ui
  • Expected result: Files related to abnormal labels are replaced.
  1. Correct directory permissions:
   chown -R zstack:zstack ~zstack/zstack-ui/zstack-ui/tag ~zstack/zstack-ui/zstack-ui/virtual-shared
  • Expected result: File ownership is correct.
  1. Restart the UI:
   zstack-ctl stop_ui
   zstack-ctl start_ui
  • Expected result: The patch takes effect.
  1. Check that list labels display normally.
  2. After confirming no exception, enable global HA.
  • Expected result: The change is complete.

Verification

  • The patch archive md5 is correct.
  • Label display is restored.
  • The platform is accessible after the UI service restarts.

Risks and rollback

  • Risk: The platform UI is temporarily unavailable while the patch is overlaid and the UI restarts.
  • Risk level: medium.
  • Rollback:
  tar -xzvf zstack-ui-next-backup.tar.gz -C /
  chown -R zstack:zstack ~zstack/zstack-ui/zstack-ui/tag ~zstack/zstack-ui/zstack-ui/virtual-shared

Then restart the UI service.
