Issue/Introduction

This article explains why some VM instances take longer to shut down and how to resolve the issue. It applies to the initial diagnosis and resolution of similar issues in ZStack Cloud.

Environment

  • Product: ZCF
  • Component: Cloud
  • Version: 3.x-5.5.30

Possible causes

This issue generally occurs on Linux VM instances because the ACPID service, a daemon that handles power-related events, is missing. The ACPID service is not installed by default on a Linux KVM VM instance. Therefore, the shutdown event is not handled, and after 1 minute the cloud platform forcibly shuts down the VM instance by terminating its process.

Resolution

  1. Run the following command in the VM instance operating system to install the ACPID service:
  [root@kvm_client_00 ~]# yum install acpid -y
  1. Run the following command to restart the ACPID service. After installation, the service is enabled at startup by default:
  [root@kvm_client_00 ~]# /etc/init.d/acpid restart
