Issue
Use this article to troubleshoot cases in which a standard ZSphere user cannot resize a VM disk.
Symptoms
- A non-admin standard user cannot resize a VM disk.
- The user's permissions and quota appear normal.
Environment
- Product: ZVF
- Version: 4.x
- Component: ZSphere
- Affected object: permissions/quotas
- Scenario: Permission and authorization issues. Confirm the current version, deployment topology, storage type, and operation timeline.
Possible causes
- The standard user lacks permission to query data store information and cannot obtain capacity information.
- Disk expansion depends on multiple capabilities, including storage-capacity queries, VM/volume permissions, and quotas.
- The permission model in the current version has a boundary that requires additional role permissions or a version fix.
Resolution
Perform the following checks in sequence, and record the affected objects, occurrence time, complete error messages, and current state.
- Confirm the user role, project/account ownership, volume ownership, and quota.
- Reproduce the issue as an admin and as the standard user, then compare failed API permission items.
- Check whether data-store query permissions are missing.
- If this is confirmed as a version issue, add the required permissions or track the fixed version as recommended by ZStack technical support.
Remediation
- Add the permissions required to query data stores to the standard user role, or adjust role authorization based on the permission model of the current version.
- If the required permission cannot be determined, provide the user role, failed API, and version information to ZStack technical support for confirmation.
Verification
- The standard user can view capacity information for associated data stores.
- With sufficient quota, the standard user can successfully resize disks of owned VMs.
