Possible causes
Remnants of an earlier GuestTools installation remain on the VM instance. The installation package remnants must be completely removed before reinstalling GuestTools.
Resolution
You can try the following steps:
- Delete the registry keys and rebuild the msdtc service, or Distributed Transaction Coordinator. Open a command-line window as an administrator, and run the following commands:

It is recommended that you back up the related registry keys or create a system restore point before deleting registry keys.
reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSDTC /f
reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSDTC /f
reg delete HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CID /f
net stop msdtc
msdtc -uninstall
msdtc -install- Restart the VM instance.
- Run the following commands in a command-line window to uninstall the older QGA version:
msiexec /a "c:\Program Files\GuestTools\qemu-ga.msi" targetdir="c:\Program Files"
"c:\Program Files\QEMU Guest Agent\Qemu-ga\qemu-ga.exe" -s vss-uninstall- Reinstall GuestTools.
