Scenario

• Product: ZCF
• Component: ZStack Cloud
• Version: 4.2.x
• Deployment: Dual management nodes
• Trigger: An x86 local backup server must be added, but management nodes do not yet have the local repository for its architecture ISO.

Symptoms

• A heterogeneous x86 local backup server must be added.
• The platform cannot add the backup server if management nodes lack its heterogeneous local repository.
• The change adds the matching ISO repository to both management nodes.

Assessment

1. Confirm that ceph -s is OK before the change.
2. Confirm that all servers are healthy in the UI.
3. Confirm that both management nodes register the heterogeneous ISO local repository successfully.

Cause

The issue is not with the backup server. Management nodes lack the local repository for the corresponding architecture. Both management nodes must register the heterogeneous x86 ISO repository before the platform can recognize and add the backup server.

Resolution

1. Preparation

• Risk level: Medium.
• Confirm the change with ZStack technical support before execution.
• Check storage and server health.

2. Health check
3. Check the ceph cluster.

• Expected result: ceph -s is OK.

2. Confirm that every server is healthy in the UI.

• Expected result: No current environmental alert is present.

3. Back up and add the heterogeneous repository
4. Back up databases on both management nodes:

      zstack-ctl dump_mysql --file-name zstack-db-backup-master
      zstack-ctl dump_mysql --file-name zstack-db-backup-slave

• Expected result: A database rollback baseline is available.

2. Upload the heterogeneous ISO to both management nodes.

• Expected result: The ISO is available on both management nodes.

3. Register the local repository on both management nodes:

      bash zstack-upgrade -a ZStack-DVD.iso

Note: ISO names differ by operating system and heterogeneous architecture; replace the example with the applicable ISO name.

• Expected result: Both management nodes successfully register the heterogeneous local repository.

Verification

• Verify that ceph -s remains OK.
• Verify that all UI server statuses remain healthy.
• Verify that prerequisites for adding the heterogeneous x86 local backup server are met.

Risks and rollback

• Risk: Executing while storage or servers are unhealthy can add environmental risk.
• Risk: An incorrect ISO name can cause local repository registration to fail.
• Risk level: Medium.
• No explicit rollback command is available; use the database backup as the baseline protection.
