Issue/Introduction
This article describes how to troubleshoot VM instance creation that fails with can't apply global Icelake-Server- x86_64-cpu.pconfig. It applies to the initial diagnosis and resolution of similar issues in ZStack Cloud.
Environment
- Product: ZCF
- Component: Cloud
- Version: 3.x-5.5.30
Possible causes
Some CPU features on the compute node do not support virtualization, and the CPU mode global setting is inherited during creation.
Resolution
Check the following items:
- The compute node uses an AMD EPYC 7663 CPU. Some features of this CPU model do not support virtualization.
- The cluster's VM Instance CPU Model is set to host-model, which inherits the VM Instance CPU Mode global setting.
Set the cluster's VM Instance CPU Model:
- Set VM Instance CPU Model for the cluster to none. The VM instance can then be created normally.
